About

For over 40 years Anthony & Alison Brown filled their family  home in Glasgow, Scotland, with possessions; the sheer diversity of their aesthetic sensibility matched only by the remarkable quantity of stuff they managed to accumulate.

When, in 2015, they decided to move home and downsize, their 4 sons imagined this might involve a long overdue reappraisal and editing, but it quickly became clear that the associated memories were making it very difficult to get rid of anything at all!

Having given up trying to convince them of the joy to be had in a less cluttered life, I decided instead to embark on a series of weekly interviews; the subject of each an object of their choosing. With the proviso that the objects need not be beautiful, precious or valuable, each artefact was chosen on the basis of its significance to them.

Needless to say, while the stories behind each individual item are interesting in themselves, it is as a collective whole that ‘the royal collection’ starts to paint a picture of my parents’ life together, told through the stuff they cant bear to throw away!
